REDLINEWEEKLY

How it works

Every indicator, measured against its own history.

Redline Weekly puts 40 market and economic indicators side by side and shows where each stands today compared with the last 20 years.

The latest data at your fingertips

  1. Step 1

    Trusted data sources

40 market and economic indicators, collected and checked for you.

  2. Step 2

    Checked twice a day

7am and 6pm New York time, updated each day as sources publish.

  3. Step 3

    Today against 20 years

A coloured dial shows where today's reading ranks against the last 20 years.

  4. Step 4

    History line

The last times it read the same, and what happened in markets then.

  5. Step 5

    Your weekly reading

The live dashboard any time, plus a weekly email and alerts.

Every indicator gets the same needle

The needle shows where today's reading ranks against the last 20 years.

The number under the dial is the current reading.

$119.94

Red · Higher than 96% of readings in the last 20 years

The last times it read this high: March 2022, February 2012, April 2011. What followed: March 2022: already during the January–October 2022 sell-off; February 2012: no major sell-off in the following 12 months; April 2011: already during the April–October 2011 sell-off. A major sell-off began within 12 months of about one date in four over the last 40 years.

  1. The reading. Brent oil price: $119.94, the average of the last five trading days.
  2. The rank. The needle shows where today's reading ranks against the last 20 years, from the green end to the red end.
  3. The bands. Each colour holds a fifth of the past 20 years of readings and takes a fifth of the dial, with red always on the right.
  4. The history line. A reading near either end shows the last times it read this high or this low, and what followed in the markets then.

The dashboard
All 40 indicators in 12 categories, each with its needle, a full history chart with past major sell-offs shaded, its 6-month direction, and when it last updated and next updates.
Counts, not scores
Each category and the overall view show how many indicators sit in each colour, such as "11 of 27 core indicators in the red", plus a needle for their average 20-year rank.
Flags with history
When an indicator enters the red, moves into a new band, or moves towards red unusually fast, it is flagged with the last times it read this high and what followed then.
The weekly email
The overall picture, what moved, flagged indicators and a category snapshot.

What it is not

  • It does not provide buy, sell or hold recommendations.
  • It does not predict markets. Readings can stay in the red for years.
  • It is not personal advice. It is the same data for every subscriber.
